Canigen® DHPPi/L

Canigen®DHPPi/L is a modified, live vaccine for puppies and dogs

For the immunisation of healthy puppies and dogs against canine distemper, contagious hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza virus and leptospirosis.

Only for use by persons authorised thereto in terms of the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act, 1982 (Act No. 19 of 1982).

 

Composition: Canigen DHPPi freeze-dried component: Attenuated canine distemper virus, attenuated canine adenovirus type 2, attenuated parvovirus and attenuated canine parainfluenza virus. Canigen L component as diluent: inactivated Leptospira suspension.

 

Warnings:

  • Vaccinate healthy dogs only.
  • Vaccination of pregnant or lactating bitches is not recommended.
  • Occasional hypersensitivity reactions may be observed in some animals. Immediate treatment for anaphylactic shock (adrenaline, antihistamines and corticosteroids) must be given.
  • Do not administer any corticosteroids or antiviral drugs preceding or following vaccination.
  • Some dogs may be unable to develop or maintain an adequate immune response after vaccination due to various factors, such as incubating infectious disease, malnourishment, parasite infestation, or stress.
  • Keep out of reach of children and uninformed persons.
  • Although this vaccine has been extensively tested under a wide variety of conditions, failure thereof may ensue as a result of a wide range of reasons. If this is suspected, contact the registration holder.

 

Precautions:

  • It is recommended that animals be treated for external and internal parasites at least 10 days prior to vaccination.
  • The vaccine should be administered in accordance with standard aseptic conditions for vaccination.
  • Avoid exposure of the animal to infection for 21 days following vaccination.
  • Use the vaccine immediately following reconstitution.
  • Used needles, syringes and vials should be disposed of in a safe manner.

 

Directions for use: Use only as directed.

The vial containing the freeze-dried Canigen DHPPi component should be reconstituted with 1 ml vial of Canigen L component as diluent. Shake well. Use immediately after reconstitution. Administer 1 ml subcutaneously.

 

Primary vaccination: Puppies can be vaccinated from 8 weeks of age with 1 dose of Canigen DHPPi/L, followed by a second dose 3 weeks later.

Booster vaccination: Annual revaccination with a single dose of Canigen DHPPi/L.

High-risk situations: Canigen DHPPi can be administered in puppies from 6 weeks of age under circumstances where the risks of parvovirus and distemper maybe higher.

 

Virbac recommends the following standard vaccination protocol under normal circumstances:

Canigen DHPPi at 8 weeks of age

Canigen DHPPi/L at 11 weeks of age

Canigen DHPPi/LR at 14 weeks of age

 

Virbac recommends the following vaccination protocol in high-risk areas:

Canigen DHPPi at 6 weeks of age

Canigen DHPPi/L at 9 weeks of age

Canigen DHPPi/LR at 12 weeks of age

 

Presentation: 25 single-dose vials of freeze-dried Canigen DHPPi component and 25 vials of Canigen L component as diluent, packed in a plastic container with package insert enclosed.

 

Storage instructions: Store at 2-8 °C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
