Urology Struvite Dissolution

Struvite stones

DIETETIC INDICATIONS*
• Dissolution of struvite stones (5 to 12 weeks).

Available formats: 1,5 kg, 3 kg

OTHER USE Cat-Urology-1.png

  • Reduction of Calcium oxalate  formation.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Growth.
  • Gestation and lactation.
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  • Cardiac insufficiency.

KEY BENEFITS & CHARACTERISTICS

Increases Water Intake
High amounts of protein and sodium stimulate water intake, help to increase urine volume and micturition frequency.

Low Struvite RSS (<1)
The formulation induces urine under-saturated for struvites, with struvite RSS** < 1, to promote rapid** dissolution of struvite stones (efficacy proven by Virbac)(1)
**RSS: Relative Super Saturation index, in comparison to U2 diet

High EPA+DHA (omega-3)
Addition of fish oil allows to achieve high amount of omega-3, especially EPA+DHA, and helps limit low urinary tract (LUT) inflammation.

Urine Acidification (pH:6.0-6.5)*
Urinary pH between 6.0 – 6.5 allows dissolution of struvites
without increasing the risk of oxalate formation. (efficacy proven by Virbac)(1)

Phosphorus Binding
Added chitosan, as phosphorus binder, helps reduce bioavailability of phosphorus and thus decrease its urinary excretion.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS & CHARACTERISTICS

Low Mineral Concentration*
Low contents of Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium help limit their urinary excretion and the risk of struvite and oxalate formation.

Addition of Oxalate Inhibitor
Added Potassium citrate, as specific inhibitor, helps limit the formation of Calcium oxalate crystals.

Oxalate RSS <12
The formulation induces urine metastable for calcium oxalates, with Oxalate RSS < 12 (efficacy proven by Virbac)(1)

High Palatability
Richness in animal protein and fat guarantees high palatability and ensures maximum compliance.

Veterinary Global Care

Management of primary condition

Dissolution of struvite stones: (efficacy proven by Virbac)1

Stimulates water intake:
The high dietary protein (44%) and sodium (1.3%) contents stimulate water intake, and help increase the urine volume and micturition frequency.

Achieves low Struvite RSS < 1:
The formula induces urine under-saturated for struvites (efficacy proven by Virbac)1

Low Phosphorus and Magnesium concentration:
The low contents of dietary Phosphorus (0.65%) and Magnesium (0.08%) help reduce their urinary excretion. Addition of Chitosan, as phosphorus binder, helps reduce phosphorus bioavailability (efficacy proven by Virbac)3.

Urine acidification (pH 6.0 – 6.5):
The richness in animal protein (93%) and sulphur-containing amino acids (methionine + cystine: 1.5%) induces acidic urinary pH which increases the solubility of struvite uroliths.

Favours urine dilution:
Added artichoke leave (500 ppm) decreases urine Specific Gravity by 30% (efficacy proven by Virbac)2

Helps limit lower urinary tract inflammation:
The high EPA+DHA amount (0.3%) helps limit the inflammatory processes.

Management of concurrent conditions

Calcium oxalate uroliths management:

Oxalate RSS < 10:
The diet formula induces urine metastable for oxalates (efficacy proven by Virbac)1

Reduced Calcium concentration:
The low amount of dietary Calcium (0.65%) reduce its urinary excretion.

Addition of Calcium oxalate inhibitor:
Added potassium citrate (0.3%) promotes the formation in the urine of potassium oxalate and calcium citrate, which are both always soluble.

Restoration of body compostion

  • Lean mass preservation: The high protein content (44%) helps maintain the lean mass.

  • Fat mass limitation: the low carbohydrate content (23%), and added L-carnitine (540 mg/kg) as fat burner, help limit the deposit of fatty tissue.

Additional health benefits

Immune support:
The high protein content (44%), with the richness in glutamine (5%), arginine (2.8%) and sulphur amino acids (methionine + cysteine: 1.5%), and added vitamin E (610 mg/kg) help maintain a heathy immune system.

High Digestive tolerance:
The addition of Montmorillonite, Lactobacilli, lignocellulose, FOS, and psyllium helps maintain a healthy digestive tract (mucosa, microbiota, transit).

Skin & Coat Support:
The high protein content (44%), especially of animal origin (93%), the richness in sulphur-containing amino acids (methionine + cysteine: 1.5%), and the balanced omega-6 (2.3%) and omega-3 (1%) fatty acids help maintain a healthy skin and a shiny coat.

Healthy renal function:
The high content of protein (44%), of high quality (in vivo apparent protein digestibility coefficient: 90%) contributes to increased water turnover. Chitosan, as digestive phosphorus binder, reduces phosphorus bioavailability.

Low glycemic index:
The HP-LC formulation (protein 44%, carbohydrate 23%) and the low amount of starch (15%) and total sugars (1.4%) help limit the impact of the meal on post prandial blood glucose concentration

Withdrawal of major allergens:
The diet is made without beef, gluten, maize, wheat, soya, egg, and dairy products.
